Women in Transport has released its latest Equity Index Report 2023, revealing the realities women face and calls for urgent action to break down systemic barriers and forge a path towards a truly inclusive and equitable transport industry.

This ground-breaking report, the first-of-its-kind in the world for the transport sector, examines workforce composition, leadership diversity, gender pay gap and career development.

Overall, the organisations that have completed the survey have achieved an overall sector rating of 50%, placing the transport sector just into the ‘Progressing’ range from foundational. This shows that the industry has much more work to do to reach the 80% pace-setting range. The generated scores are based on an assessment, broken down across the 10 key workplace equity standards.

Furthermore, the report underscores the importance of collaboration and collective effort in driving meaningful change within the transport industry. It calls upon stakeholders, including companies, government bodies and advocacy groups, to work together to implement policies and practices that promote gender equity and diversity.

From the presence of a gender pay gap to a lack of formal targets for gender diversity, the survey underscores various challenges within the transport sector. While it highlights areas needing improvement, it also serves as a catalyst for meaningful dialogue and action. By identifying these issues, the survey prompts stakeholders to collaborate on implementing effective solutions that promote equality and diversity.
