York takes a leap towards sustainable transit with First Bus and City of York Council introducing a fleet of zero-emission buses, signalling a shift towards cleaner, greener urban transportation.
York's First Bus depot on James Street is set to become the first fully electric depot outside of London, marking a significant milestone in the city's green transport revolution and efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
As part of the UK government's £25.3 million investment to achieve a net zero transport network, 117 British-built zero-emission buses will be rolled out across Yorkshire, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Hampshire.
The Zero Emission Buses Regional Area scheme has awarded 12 local transport authorities with a portion of £198.3 million to purchase zero-emission buses, which will equate to 943 alternative power buses being rolled-out on England's roads.
