FlixBus, now operating in 39 countries, has announced that it has reported record-breaking ridership during the summer season for Q2 and Q3 2022.

As a result of strong returning demand for travel after the pandemic and the rising importance of shared and climate-friendly transport, FlixBus has grown the number of carried passengers by 130 per cent across the globe from April to September 2022, compared to the same period in 2021.

With its official launch in April 2021 following the pandemic, FlixBus entered the domestic UK market in 2020. In summer 2022, the company has served the UK’s one millionth customer, and achieved a 94 per cent increase in passengers carried compared to 2021.

Andreas Schorling, UK Managing Director of FlixBus, said: “The positive response from the UK market this summer indicates a huge consumer appetite for our sustainable, affordable coach services. We have more than exceeded our targets for growth as we establish ourselves as a key player of the UK’s travel industry, ultimately on a mission to become the market leader.”

Over 34 million travellers have travelled to more than 3,000 destinations in Europe, North America, Turkey and Brazil, delivering a profitable summer season result on a group level.

Getting passengers back on-board: FlixBus’ road to recovery

André Schwämmlein, CEO of FlixBus, said: “I am very proud that Flix is back stronger than ever after the pandemic, demonstrating that our constant efforts towards sustainable recovery have paid off. We keep fostering our strategy to drive the future of mobility in a profitable and sustainable way. Investing into our expansion to Brazil, the U.S., Canada, Portugal and the Baltics during the pandemic, proved to be another bold and successful step towards our vision of offering affordable and sustainable mobility for everyone around the globe.”

The largest markets for FlixBus are Germany, Italy, France and Poland, and based on the company’s strong commitment for the region, FlixBus Ukraine has provided additional connections and consequently noted the highest relative passenger growth in this period.

In addition, the company has recently launched the first commercial line running entirely on rapeseed Oleo100 biodiesel in France, which reduces CO2 emissions by almost 70 per cent and fine particle emissions by up to 80 per cent.

“Facing increasing inflation and fuel prices, Flix is aware of the rising importance of affordable and sustainable mobility. We will continue investing our efforts into growing the Flix network and developing new sustainable alternative drives towards a greener future,” said André Schwämmlein.
