Skanetrafiken, the public transportation authority in Skåne, has unveiled a new initiative aimed at improving accessibility and affordability for seniors. Effective from 1 April 2024, individuals aged 70 and above will enjoy a 25% discount on public transit fares across the region.
This discount encompasses all regular tickets within Skåne’s public transit network and mandates seniors to present valid identification verifying their age during ticket purchases. It is applicable at all ticket outlets associated with Skanetrafiken, with the exception of “Blippa Stadsbuss,” where regular fares will remain unchanged.
Notably, seniors travelling in groups can capitalise on joint ticket purchases, which offer a 25% discount within Scania. Moreover, municipalities in Skåne will retain the option to procure senior tickets for their residents, tailored for travel within respective municipal boundaries.

The decision to set the age threshold at 70 for the senior discount is rooted in a balance between user benefits and regional fiscal considerations. By targeting this demographic, Skanetrafiken aims to optimise the impact of the discount while aligning with broader community welfare objectives.
As anticipation mounts for the 1 April roll-out, Skanetrafiken’s initiative reflects a concerted effort to address the needs of seniors and ensure that public transit remains accessible to all members of the community. With this initiative, the agency takes a stride towards fostering a more inclusive and interconnected transportation network throughout Skåne.
In response to evolving commuter preferences, Skanetrafiken has also announced that it will discontinue the sale of the ’10 simple’ ticket from 31 March 2024. This decision reflects the organisation’s commitment to offering a range of ticketing options to meet the changing needs of commuters.
