Arriva has announced that it has been awarded a new 10-year contract to uphold its commitment to the West Brabant region in The Netherlands, solidifying the company’s presence in the area and ensuring continued convenience for both passengers and employees.

The success of Arriva’s bid is attributed to its forward-thinking proposal, which includes a resilient network and the introduction of more than 200 zero-emission electric buses, scheduled to commence service in July 2025.

A notable improvement for commuters is the implementation of an expanded timetable featuring additional direct bus routes, aimed at simplifying travel within the West Brabant region by reducing the need for multiple transfers.

The new buses, equipped with advanced technology and constructed from circular materials, aim to enhance passenger comfort. With the goal of achieving an emission-free fleet by 2030, Arriva is taking significant steps towards sustainable and environmentally friendly public transportation.

Transforming urban mobility across Europe with innovative MaaS solutions

Anne Hettinga, Managing Director of Arriva Netherlands, said: “This is an important win for us and I’m proud that Arriva will continue to serve the communities of West Brabant for another 10 years, building on our high levels of service and track record of sustainable transport solutions.  Arriva brings international expertise across all forms of transportation, and we look forward to working with the local passenger transport authorities to grow public transport in the region.”

In the Netherlands, Arriva’s Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) offering, glimble by Arriva, connects travellers across the country, facilitating seamless research, booking and payment for multimodal interconnected travel. Since its introduction in 2021, glimble has garnered over 300,000 users and recently expanded to Trieste, Italy. Arriva remains open to exploring further expansion opportunities within Italy and other parts of Europe.

The new contract in West Brabant is scheduled to take effect in July 2025, coinciding with the introduction of the initial batch of new, eco-friendly buses.
