Bolt has announced that it has been granted a coveted license to operate over 2,500 micro-mobility vehicles in Oslo until March 2025. The move marks the return of Bolt’s sustainable and affordable scooter operations to the Norwegian capital, with services scheduled to recommence on 1 April 2024.

Safety remains a paramount concern for Bolt’s micro-mobility services, prompting the introduction of innovative features designed to ensure rider responsibility. Among these is ParkAssist+, an artificial intelligence (AI) based end-of-ride parking solution aimed at promoting proper parking etiquette. Furthermore, Bolt has rolled out the reckless rider score, an in-house developed system that evaluates riders’ behaviour and suspends those who frequently violate safety rules.

In a significant departure from the industry norm, Bolt will implement a distance-based pricing model instead of charging riders based on time. This strategic shift is intended to discourage unsafe riding behaviour incentivised by time-based pricing structures. By focusing on the distance travelled, Bolt aims to foster a safer and more responsible approach to micro-mobility.

The introduction of the Bolt 6, the latest addition to the company’s scooter fleet, is another notable development. The latest e-scooter model boasts state-of-the-art features, including numerous sensors, microprocessors, data-mining capabilities and precision technologies. These advancements ensure the highest standards of safety, sustainability and overall customer experience.

Martin Tansøy, Operations Manager at Bolt in Oslo, said: “We are thrilled about the opportunity to return to Oslo, and proud of the trust that the city has shown in us. At Bolt, we are committed to being a reliable partner for cities, supporting them in making urban areas more people-friendly by offering alternatives to driving a private car and tackling air and noise pollution and congestion.”

Bolt’s successful expansion goes beyond Oslo, as the company has recently secured licenses to operate in two other major European cities – Milan and Brussels – solidifying Bolt’s position as a key player in the European micro-mobility landscape.
