Australia and New Zealand’s largest bus operator, Kinetic, has announced that local bus operator Mackay Transit Coaches (MTC) will soon join its network – further expanding its investment in regional Queensland communities.

MTC is the largest bus operator in the greater Mackay region in Queensland, on Australia’s east coast, with 62 buses delivering government contracted urban, long distance and school services, resources charter services and general charter services. The business has been owned by Geraldine and Reagon Forsyth for more than 25 years.

MTC’s high quality, fully equipped bus depot and additional parking facility will strengthen Kinetic’s footprint in central Queensland as a strategic base to enhance service delivery in the region.

Kinetic has an existing bus operation, Greyhound Resources, in Mackay and operates TransLink urban and school bus services across Cairns, Townsville and Magnetic Island. The bus company also operates urban, school and charter bus services in southeast Queensland.

Kinetic unveils Australia’s first 100 per cent electric bus depot

Kinetic has a network of more than 3800 buses and 5800 people across over 70 depots and is the largest owner and operator of battery electric buses (BEB) in Australasia. In 2022, 71 zero-emission vehicles will be in service or joining Kinetic’s network across eight depots. This includes 20 battery electric buses (BEB) Kinetic will introduce across the Sunshine Coast, Cairns and the Gold Coast in partnership with the Government of Queensland.

In April 2022, Kinetic opened Australia’s first all-electric bus depot powered by 100 per cent renewable energy on the Gold Coast.

Kinetic Co-CEO Michael Sewards said: “We continue to look for opportunities to bring our customer-first standards to all of our services, whether it’s in metropolitan or regional communities, and expanding our network in Mackay indicates our ongoing commitment to investing in Central Queensland. We congratulate Geraldine and Reagon on growing what is a fantastic business with a passionate team, and we’ll look to continue their legacy as we welcome the team into the Kinetic family and work with our clients to continue to deliver service excellence.”
