FlixBus announces expansion in collaboration with Newport Transport

FlixBus has announced that it is partnering with Newport Transport to expand their reach across the UK, aiming to provide enhanced intercity travel options for passengers. This move, scheduled to be implemented before the summer of 2024, will introduce new routes and increased services across Wales and the Southwest.

Newport Transport, a key player in the local bus network, had partnered with FlixBus in 2023 to introduce dedicated airport lines in the UK. Building on the success of this partnership, both companies have outlined a multi-year strategy to improve the long-distance express coach network.

The expanded collaboration will result in more frequent daily services connecting Heathrow and Gatwick airports to various destinations in Wales and the Southwest. In addition, FlixBus plans to introduce its Yutong vehicles on a new route between Swansea and Birmingham, expanding travel options in the region.

Andreas Schorling, Managing Director of FlixBus UK, said: “Launching intercity services has been hugely successful for us in the UK, and we’ve since worked in partnership with Newport Transport to run dedicated airport-to-city routes, which have been equally popular. We want to continue bringing services to the UK that customers want, and are proud to forge new direct connections this year, between cities like Swansea and Birmingham.”

FlixBus launches bus services in India

The expansion initiative is expected to create 22 new jobs in the South Wales area, providing an economic boost to the region. 

Morgan Stevens, Operations Director at Newport Transport, said: “We were new to the express coach market but with [FlixBus’s] expertise and guidance, we’ve found a really strong additional revenue stream and diversified our business. We’re proud to be offering Welsh cities with even more high-quality transport options.”

Both FlixBus and Newport Transport are committed to sustainability, with FlixBus aiming for carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040 and Newport Transport investing in zero-emission solutions for its local bus services.
