Broward County Transit has introduced its first electric express coach bus in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation, signalling a significant leap towards sustainable transportation in the region.

In a ground-breaking move towards sustainable transportation, Broward County Transit (BCT) has announced that it has celebrated a historic milestone with the inauguration of its first electric express coach bus. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the beginning of a new era in eco-friendly transit for the region, showcasing the result of a visionary partnership between BCT and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

The sleek and silent electric coach bus has commenced operations as of 22  January 2024, shuttling passengers seamlessly between Broward and Miami-Dade County. With a seating capacity of up to 54 passengers, complimentary Wi-Fi and an impressive range of up to 230 miles per charge, these state-of-the-art vehicles promise a comfortable and environmentally conscious travel experience.

The event had taken place on 22 January 2024 and had been attended by key figures, including Jeremy Mullings from South Florida Commuter Services, Nan Rich, Mayor of Broward County, Monica Cepero, Broward County Administrator, John Krane, P.E., Director of Transportation Development at FDO, and Coree Cuff Lonergan, CEO/General Manager of Broward County Transportation.

“This electric express coach bus is a symbol of our county’s unwavering commitment to a cleaner, greener future,” said Coree Cuff Lonergan, CEO/General Manager of Transportation. “This partnership with FDOT underscores our shared vision for building a better tomorrow, one emission-free ride at a time.”

Broward County Transit currently operates five Express Bus service Park and Ride locations, providing commuters with free parking and access to an appealing transportation alternative. These locations offer a safe, reliable and comfortable ride to and from daily commutes into Miami-Dade, contributing to the region’s efforts to create a more sustainable and efficient transit system.
