Abellio London has announced that it has mobilised two new contracts for routes C3 and 404 on behalf of Transport for London (TfL). The company’s expansion into electric vehicle (EV) technology is taking a significant leap forward with the introduction of new state-of-the-art electric buses on the C3 route.

The C3 route, which connects Clapham Junction to the Earls Court Tesco, is the latest addition to Abellio’s portfolio. This route sees the introduction of the brand-new double-deck Wrightbus Electroliners, showcasing Abellio’s commitment to sustainability and passenger comfort.

The newly introduced electric buses have been designed with attention to customer comfort, featuring high-back seats throughout the bus, making longer journeys a more relaxing experience. These seats also come equipped with USB chargers and mobile phone holders, allowing passengers to stay connected during their travels.

Abellio has paid special attention to accessibility, ensuring that the seating arrangements cater to the needs of all passengers. Priority seats are clearly marked, and a spacious area for wheelchairs and buggies has been designated. The buses are equipped with digital signage displaying real-time information, including the time to the next stop, service disruptions, available space on the next bus and updates for Tube, Rail and Overground services. A dedicated signage area for the wheelchair section ensures that passengers with special requirements can easily access the information they need.

The 404 route, running between Caterham and Coulsdon Town, will be operated using Abellio’s existing fleet of ADL Enviro 200 single-deck buses. These dependable vehicles will continue to provide essential transportation services to passengers along this outer London route.

Abellio’s Beddington depot will serve as the operational base for the 404 route, ensuring reliable service and maintenance support.

As a pioneer in EV technology within London’s transport sector, Abellio is on track to become the first London operator to fully electrify all of its London depots in late 2023, contributing to the reduction of emissions and a cleaner urban environment.

Jon Eardley, Managing Director of Abellio London, said: “We are delighted to mobilise these two new contracts on behalf of Transport for London, bringing routes C3 and 404 into the Abellio family to allow us to serve customers on these vital routes in London. Our investment in infrastructure and fleet means we can bring the latest EV technology to the C3 route.”
