Let’s Talk Transport Episode 1 – Lorna Murphy, Abellio London

Welcome to the first episode of Intelligent Transport’s new video interview series, Let’s Talk Transport, where we sit down with some of the biggest names in transportation and mobility to ask them even bigger questions.

For the opening episode, our Editor, Leah Hockley, is joined by Abellio London’s Operations and HR Director, Lorna Murphy, to discuss diversity within public transport.

Beginning the conversation for this episode, we discuss the importance of making improvements to workforce diversity and inclusion a priority for the industry because, as Lorna says, “it brings different thoughts to the table” and makes the industry “more reflective of the communities that we serve”.

Then, we consider why the public transport industry must adapt in order to better support the members of its workforce – particularly women and others from under-represented communities – and how this can help to improve workforce retainment. 

In the second half of this episode, we shift our focus to the work that Abellio London has been undertaking within its organisation to support improvements in diversity, and what the results have been.
