TransLink has announced that it has launched Route 80, a new express bus route serving the City of Vancouver between the River District and Marine Drive Station.
The launch of Route 80 has been implemented within TransLink’s current operating budget thanks to savings made through TransLink’s Bus Stop Balancing programme, which helped make service faster and more efficient on several Vancouver bus routes. Making those routes more efficient saved operating costs, which have been re-invested into the system through this new bus route.
Route 80 is expected to serve 400-500 customers per day and will complement service on routes 100 and 31, which currently serve River District customers. This route gives River District residents a new direct connection to and from the Canada Line. The service runs every 30 minutes on weekdays between 06:00 and 09:00, and between 15:00 and 18:00.

Kevin Quinn, TransLink CEO, said: “Route 80 is a welcome addition to TransLink‘s bus network, and an example of how we can optimize bus service throughout the region within our existing operating budget. We recognize the growth of the River District and are excited to improve service for members of that community.”
Brad West, Mayors’ Council Chair and Mayor of Port Coquitlam, said: “The new route 80 is a great example of how municipalities can work together with TransLink to achieve positive results for the public. Through strategic partnerships, we can continue to improve public transportation throughout the region and move Metro Vancouver toward a sustainable transit system that meets the needs of everyone.”
Ken Sim, Mayor of Vancouver, said: “The introduction of fast and frequent bus service connecting the River District with Marine Gateway is an important step forward for transit accessibility in South Vancouver. The Marine Drive corridor is one of the fastest parts of our city – we’re thrilled to have this significant increase in their transit services.”
