Beryl has announced that, along with Cornwall Council, it has launched the latest part of their Cornwall-wide e-bike share scheme in Truro.

As part of the launch, a new fleet of 25 e-bikes, which will ramp up to 50 within a week, are now available to hire across the city via the Beryl app. The new e-bikes will complement the 100 e-bikes that have already been launched in the Cornish towns of Falmouth and Penzance. They can be hired from and returned to 20 Beryl bays, which have been located following consultation with communities and key stakeholders.

The scheme is operated by Beryl on behalf of Cornwall Council and has been funded by the council’s Carbon Neutral Cornwall Fund. In the coming weeks, Newquay and St Austell will also join the e-bike share scheme.

Beryl’s Scheme Lead for Cornwall and Plymouth, Kate Palmer, said: “With the warmer weather and longer days on the horizon, this is a fantastic time for our e-bikes to arrive in this beautiful cathedral city, which has so much to see and explore. Our e-bikes are a fantastic way to do this and the extra power that they provide can make the occasionally hilly terrain more accessible to some riders and allow them to undertake longer journeys. By swapping the car for an e-bike journey you’re not only boosting your own health and fitness, you’re also helping to reduce congestion and harmful carbon emissions, so why not give it a try.”

Users can pay for their e-bike journeys in a variety of ways to suit individual needs and  circumstances. Pay As You Ride is best for single journeys or occasional rides and will cost users £1.50 unlocking fee and 10p per minute. Minute Bundles enable regular users to buy upfront and save money, starting at 100 minutes for £5.
