European micro-mobility operator Voi Technology has announced the launch of its brand new e-scooter model, the Voiager 5 (V5), which has now been rolled out on the streets of Liverpool, Bristol and Bath.

The first UK cities to have the latest iteration of Voi’s new e-scooter, Liverpool, Bristol and Bath join cities across Europe, such as Bergen, Bordeaux, Helsinki, Madrid, Milan, Oslo, Rome, Seville, Stockholm and Trondheim, where the V5 has already been successfully rolled out.

In order to celebrate the arrival of the V5 to these three cities, Voi is offering new riders 15 minutes of free riding until 30 June 2022.

Voi’s most circular vehicle yet, the V5 has components that are easier to repair and re-use and has been built using more than double the amount of recycled materials. The commitment to sustainable design and manufacturing in the V5 is a boost to Voi’s Circular Vehicle Programme and integral to the company’s mission to become carbon positive by 2030

The V5 has a larger front wheel and increased tyre tread depth for improved safety, along with greater shock absorption for smooth rides even on rough surfaces. Additionally, the height increase between the road and the rider prevents the scraping of the foot deck. This means that the wheels can navigate potholes more easily, allowing the rider to travel more smoothly on roads around the city.

According to Voi, the V5’s brakes are even more durable and sturdy. The reinforced brake cables are now easier to access for mechanics, which reduces the scooter’s time spent in the warehouse for maintenance and increases the fleet availability for riders.

Other new benefits of the V5 include improved accuracy and precision, allowing riders to end their rides at designated parking spots with accuracy, and greater street accessibility, which means that riders and non-riders can scan the QR code using their smartphone camera to easily let Voi’s local teams know if a vehicle is wrongly parked, so they can take care of it.

As part of Voi’s mission to improve gender equity in e-scooter usage, Voi engaged widely with many groups, such as Open Inclusion and Women in Transport, whose mobility needs are often not taken into consideration.

New key features developed with inclusion in mind are:

  • An updated dashboard design, which has seen the addition of a centrally-located integrated phone holder, enabling riders to navigate more safely
  • A more ergonomic handlebar whereby the brakes, indicator switch and bell are easier to reach
  • Auto-cancelling indicators, preventing riders from having to lower their gaze mid-ride to inactivate them.

“The Voiager 5 model encapsulates Voi’s values, from pushing boundaries when it comes to safe and inclusive design, to riding together so that we can create better cities for living, free of congestion and pollution,” said Jack Samler, General Manager at Voi UK and Ireland. “We know that our riders will love the new V5 model because it’s suited to their everyday needs as it’s engineered for the city. We’re excited to continue delivering a world-class rental scheme to help decarbonise cities like Liverpool, Bristol and Bath and create better places for living.”
