Hamburg reinforces its electric fleet with 10 new battery buses

Hamburg’s public transport operator, HOCHBAHN, has recently ordered 10 more electric battery buses from Solaris.

These will reinforce the operator’s fleet whilst converging with the city hall’s policy – constituting a milestone on the path to building an eco-friendly bus fleet.

The 12m vehicles will carry up to 70 passengers, of whom 25 can be seated. The buses will be recharged at the bus depot, using a plug-in charger. The vehicles shall feature Solaris High Energy batteries with a total capacity of 240kWh, an axle with integrated electric motors which constitute the drive unit and LED lighting, both inside and out.

Hamburg citizens are well acquainted with the buses due to the Polish producer delivering vehicles to the city since 2006. At the moment a total of 30 buses produced in Bolechowo, including five electric ones, operate along Hamburg streets. Two of the 18.75m Solaris Urbino electrics supplied in 2014 are state-of-the-art electric vehicles with a hydrogen fuel cell.

In line with the agreement, two of the commissioned vehicles shall be supplied in autumn 2018. The remaining ones will be delivered in September 2019.
