Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming the city’s public transport landscape. Under a comprehensive three-year plan, RTA has awarded contracts to enhance 22 key bus stations and depots across the emirate. The project, overseen by His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, is set to redefine the standards of public transportation services in Dubai.

The scope of the project encompasses significant upgrades to 16 bus stations and six bus depots, spanning various strategic locations throughout Dubai. These enhancements include infrastructural improvements, the introduction of cutting-edge passenger facilities, and the implementation of state-of-the-art maintenance and inspection capabilities.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer said: “Building public bus stations and depots forms a key part of RTA’s strategy to enhance the public transport infrastructure. It aims to encourage the community to opt for public transport in their daily movements. The project goes beyond the traditional function of stations, aiming to not just facilitate passenger mobility but to enhance the overall travel experience. This encompasses offering comprehensive services that contribute to passenger happiness, improving accessibility for people of determination, providing bicycle racks and ensuring seamless connectivity with Dubai Metro and taxi services.”

The project’s scope extends to the renovation and modernisation of 16 bus stations, including prominent locations such as Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta and Deira City Centre. These stations will undergo extensive upgrades to enhance passenger comfort and convenience, with improvements ranging from building facades to the addition of prayer rooms.

In addition, six bus depots will undergo comprehensive development to optimise operational efficiency and service quality. From the revamping of inspection lanes to the provision of residential quarters for drivers, these depots will serve as integral hubs within Dubai’s public transport network.

This initiative builds upon previous successes, including the construction of modern public bus stations in key areas such as Al Ghubaiba, Union and Dubai International Airport. These stations have designed with a focus on connectivity, safety and accessibility.
