In a strategic move towards enhanced convenience and accessibility for commuters, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC SNV) has announced the expansion of its Tap & GO enhanced fare collection service. Transit customers can now effortlessly pay for their single ride bus fare using debit/credit cards, mobile wallets, or smartwatches.

The implementation of this contactless payment option marks a significant milestone in the evolution of RTC SNV’s commitment to providing seamless travel experiences for residents and visitors alike. This innovative step is especially beneficial for tourists who want to use an RTC SNV bus and may not wish to purchase a traditional paper pass or download additional applications.

RTC SNV CEO M.J. Maynard expressed her enthusiasm for the new feature, stating, “We are pleased to make it even more convenient for residents and visitors to travel throughout our community. We understand that not everyone wants to carry a paper pass or download another app and believe this new feature will help make the payment process more convenient, intuitive and efficient while giving riders more payment options.”

Breaking financial barriers with fare-free services: Offering a more equitable transport system for transit-dependent riders

Currently, the system accepts major payment methods, including Mastercard, Visa, Apple Pay and Google Pay. This integration is aimed at catering to the diverse preferences of transit users, providing a hassle-free experience for all.

The RTC SNV Tap & GO feature adds to the array of user-friendly services already offered by the commission. In June 2023, a single-ride feature had been introduced in the rideRTC mobile app, followed by the cash-to-mobile option available since December 2020. These initiatives underscore RTC SNV’s commitment to embracing technological advancements and improving the overall commuting experience for Southern Nevada residents and visitors.

As RTC SNV continues to evolve its services, the introduction of contactless payment options enhances the efficiency of the transit system while aligning with the global trend toward digital and contactless payment methods. This move is expected to contribute to the overall modernisation and user satisfaction within the Southern Nevada public transportation network.
