Adelaide Metro has announced that its new Tap and Pay service is now available with Visa, Mastercard or metroCARD on trams and O-Bahn buses, and that these easy ways to pay will be available on all Adelaide Metro buses by late 2023.

The launch of Tap and Pay is all part of a network-wide ticketing upgrade that is designed to make public transport simpler, safer and easier to use. Currently, Adelaide Metro is in the process of fitting its new smart validators bus-by-bus – as a result, the operator has outlined to passengers that transferring between services may be slightly more difficult for a while and has thanked them for their patience.

For now, passengers can transfer with their Tap and Pay ticket to:

  • All trams
  • Some buses (with all buses set to be utilising the technology by late 2023)
  • Trains leaving the Adelaide Railway Station (via special access Gate 1).

Adelaide Metro has also announced that, as its welcomes the Tap and Pay service, it will subsequently be saying goodbye paper MetroTickets. Paper MetroTickets have already begun being phased out, gradually, from 1 July 2023, but the Singletrips and Daytrips that were available as paper MetroTickets are now available on a metroCARD.
