The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC SNV) has announced that it has expanded its fare payment options by adding two new web-based payment portals and upgraded fixed route fare validators in order to improve efficiency and convenience for riders. RTC SNV has also expanded its cash-to-mobile partnerships, offering 350 locations valley-wide where bus passes can be purchased with cash.

“With the implementation of these new services, upgrades and partnerships to expand payment options, RTC SNV continues to improve overall service operations to make transit more accessible and convenient for our customers,” said MJ Maynard, CEO of RTC SNV. “This is critical in our ongoing mission to reach as many people as we can with equitable transportation options.”

The rideRTC Web Portal helps customers to manage and track their rideRTC mobile app from their computer. Now, customers can plan their trips and purchase transit passes in advance, either while on the go using their smartphones or at home on their desktops or laptop computers.

Furthermore, the new Paratransit Payment Web Portal allows customers to purchase their passes online and create an account where they can set up re-occurring payments and track their payment history. As an added benefit of the new purchasing system, paratransit customers’ accounts will be updated the same day as their purchase, giving them immediate access to transit passes and eliminating the three- to five-day wait following their purchase.

Several retailers have signed on to offer RTC SNV customers more locations where they can take advantage of the cash to mobile payment option. This payment option allows customers to purchase bus passes with cash at more than 350 locations valley-wide, and then have the fare loaded to their RTC smartphone app.

Federal funding has allowed RTC SNV to install new Europay, MasterCard and Visa (EMV) on-board validators on all fixed route RTC SNV transit buses, which are now located closer to the fare box for better accessibility and convenience. These validators are a key component in the transit authority’s work to add a reloadable tap card and build for future contactless payment options.
