Shaping the future of the railway broadband communications

ACKSYS Communications & Systems, will showcase at InnoTrans 2018 its latest wireless combo product (IEEE 802.11ac WiFi + LTE/4G cellular).

With more than 14 years of experience in wireless networks for public transportation, ACKSYS has become a major player in the market with more than 20,000 products installed over the world in trains, subways, trams and buses.

During InnoTrans, ACKSYS will show how its latest products combining Wi-Fi 802.11ac and cellular connectivity ensure a continuous transmission of critical data in motion, whatever the Wi-Fi or cellular coverage.

This is due to advanced handover features (30ms roaming time, pre-authentication, IEEE 802.11r fast transitions protocol), redundancy protocols (VRRP, PRP) and unleashed performances with up to 500 Mbps at 350 Km/h (connect before break technology, packet error rate < 0.1%).

ACKSYS will present its train-to-trackside wireless communication solution composed of:

RailBox (rolling stock)

RailBox

RailBox relies on dual-SIM 4G/LTE and Wi-Fi 802.11n/ac MIMO radios to guarantee reliable and high-speed broadband data transfers in motion or stationary (station or depot). RailBox complies with all EN 50155 standards as well as the most stringent environmental requirements: shocks and vibrations, IP66 and operating temperatures up to -40 degrees Celsius/+75 degrees Celsius. RailBox features a dual insulated power supply, M12 hardened connectors and C-KEY (backup key/instantaneous restoration of the product configuration).

RailTrack (trackside, tunnels)

RailTrack

RailTrack is a ruggedised Wi-Fi access point specially designed for trackside and tunnel infrastructures and complies with all the EN 50155 standards. It features a four-port Ethernet switch (2 x 10/100/1000 & 2 x Gigabit optic fiber on SFP cage), three independent 802.11ac high-speed radio cards (three streams) approaching 900 Mbps (UDP) each. RailTrack allows the construction of high performance architectures such as ‘wireless backbone’ to overcome Ethernet cables along tracksides and tunnels. RailTrack is housed in an IP66 enclosure ideal for wall mounting in tunnels or mast mounting outdoor, it requires an AC power source from 100VAC to 240VAC.

RailTrack combined to RailBox is the comprehensive connected architecture for ‘train-to-trackside communication in motion’ by ACKSYS. This solution allows reliable and very high-speed broadband train-to-trackside communications, particularly suited to broadband radio system (BBRS) for real-time video surveillance, internet on board for passengers and CBTC applications.
