Mr Lewis, from Mickley in Northumberland, is a former journalist and media executive in the North East and has been with Nexus since 2005 in communications and customer-focused roles, most recently as a Corporate Manager for Customer Services and Communications.

He has played a part in the roll-out of smart ticketing while at Nexus, as well as the fight against metal theft on railways and campaigns to win investment to modernise Metro and manage the impact of works on passengers and residents.

“I am immensely proud to be one of a team working to provide excellence in local public transport, including Metro and the Shields Ferry, which I have used since I was a student,” he said.

Mr Lewis will be responsible for providing strategic vision and direction for the delivery of customer services. He will take up his role at the end of the Metro’s operating concession on 1 April, when the operation of the system passes back over to Nexus.

“Customer service excellence is at the heart of everything that we do”

“This is an important time for Nexus as we prepare to take Metro into the future,” said Tobyn Hughes, Managing Director of Nexus. “Customer service excellence is at the heart of everything that we do and Huw’s new role is to lead improvements for passengers in all of the services that we deliver in Tyne and Wear.”
