St. Petersburg Metro has signed a supply contract with OEVRZ for 40 metro cars with asynchronous traction drives.

St. Petersburg Metro has signed a supply contract with OEVRZ for 40 metro cars with asynchronous traction drives.
Oktyabrsky Electric Railway Car Repair Plant (OEVRZ) a subsidiary of JSC Transmashholding will supply 40 metro cars to St. Petersburg Metro in a contract totalling Rub. 3.8 billion (€218 million). Delivery will take place between January and May 2018 with cars supplied in batches of 8 units per month.

The asynchronous traction drive is expected to reduce power consumption by up to 30 percent compared with the current metro fleet in operation.
Each metro train will be equipped with a clean air ventilation system with even airflow distribution and user-friendly driver’s cabins fitted with HVAC and vibration-absorbing seats. Furthermore, head cars will be fitted with electronic destination indicators.
OVRZ is one of the largest suppliers of rolling stock for St.Petersburg Metro and is currently employed on four contracts which will see 428 new cars delivered by 2020.
