KeolisAmey Metrolink to continue operation of Manchester tram network until 2027

Keolis has announced that Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is extending the contract to operate and maintain its Metrolink tram network, entrusted since 2017 to KeolisAmey Metrolink Ltd (KAM) – the joint venture between Groupe Keolis (60%) and British company Amey (40%) – for a further three years.

Inaugurated in 1992, Metrolink is the largest tram network in the UK, with seven lines and 100km of track on which 147 trams run, serving some 100 stops spread between the centres of Greater Manchester, its airport and suburbs. It is a key element of Greater Manchester’s public transport system, which combines trams, buses, cycle paths and walking routes – with plans to include local rail services by 2030.

During the three-year contract extension, KeolisAmey Metrolink will continue to support the Greater Manchester transport authority in achieving its objectives. The ambition is to increase ridership thanks to improved passenger service quality. Serenity and safety on-board will be the focus of particular attention, in line with the measures taken since 2017 with the increased presence of security officers on the network and the signing of a partnership with the Greater Manchester police force. The aim is also to optimise network performance by 2027.
