nextbike by TIER announces first operations in France

nextbike by TIER, the European bike-share operator, has announced that Vélhop, Strasbourg’s bike-sharing scheme, will be operated using nextbike by TIER’s hardware and software from Autumn 2023.

The news from the French capital of cycling is the company’s first offering in France and, following its expansion in Spain earlier in 2023, shows the rapidly growing demand for bike-sharing as a sustainable and flexible component of public transport networks across Europe.

nextbike by TIER secured the contract to supply the hardware and software for the Vélhop bike-sharing scheme in Spring 2023. The Leipzig-based brand will provide its full range of technologies to Strasbourg Mobilités, including 600 cutting-edge shared bikes fitted with GPS tracking technology. The service will be operated locally by Strasbourg Mobilités on behalf of Eurométropole de Strasbourg (EMS), with the bikes available to rent from 38 stations across the city. 

Franck Guerniou, Strasbourg City Manager at TIER Mobility, commented: “As the European bike-sharing market leader, it was time for nextbike by TIER to also gain a foothold in France. The bike-sharing service in Strasbourg is a great example of how sustainable mobility can be extensively and easily integrated into the city’s existing public transport system.  Vélhop is, thus, laying an important foundation for further projects in France.”
