Bus Éireann has announced that its Expressway Route 2 is set to introduce additional morning and evening services through Arklow, starting 6 June 2023. This development, licensed by the National Transport Authority (NTA), is pending final approvals from Wicklow County Council.
The newly added service will depart Wexford town at 05:50, making a stop in Arklow at 07:00 and arriving at Dublin’s Custom House Quay at 08:10. The route will also include a stop at Dublin Airport at 08:30. Expressway will operate hourly between Arklow and Dublin from 07:00 to 18:15, with the last departure at 20:30. Furthermore, the 17:00 departure from Dublin Airport will leave Busáras at 17:30, reaching Arklow at 18:40. Departures from Dublin Airport to Arklow will be available every hour from 10:00 to 19:00, with the final departure at midnight.
Eleanor Farrell, Chief Commercial Officer at Bus Éireann, said: “Expressway provides excellent connectivity for Arklow to Dublin and Wexford with 24 services every weekday. With commuter demand it makes sense now to route all journeys through Arklow, bringing this to 26 weekday services.”
Expressway is Bus Éireann’s commercial intercity coach business and does not receive state subvention. The service provides connectivity between Arklow, Dublin and Wexford with a total of 24 services offered on weekdays.
Transport for the South East’s Strategic Investment Plan approved

In addition, commuters can opt for a Taxsaver monthly pass at a cost of €210, which includes travel within the Greater Dublin Area yellow, blue, green and red zones. Customers paying the higher rate of tax can save up to 52%, resulting in a monthly ticket cost of just €100.80.
The new services provided by Bus Éireann’s Expressway Route 2 are expected to cater to the increasing demand for convenient transportation options, benefiting both residents and commuters in Arklow.
