Uber launches public transport feature in New Delhi

Uber has launched a new public transport journey planning feature for users in New Delhi, integrating the app with the city’s metro and public bus service.

Uber has said that it has chosen New Delhi as the second Asia Pacific city to get this feature to further reiterate its commitment to a key strategic market and one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

After riders enter a destination, they will see ‘Public Transport’ as an option alongside ‘UberGO’, ‘Premier’ and ‘UberPool.’ Upon selecting the ‘Public Transport’ feature, riders will be able to see fastest and cheapest routes and real-time schedules – including departure time for public transportation (metro and buses and walking directions).

The announcement comes shortly after Uber won a public bid to offer its mobility services across 210 Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) stations.

Uber has also announced, in partnership with DMRC, a ‘model metro station’ to showcase future smart mobility solutions and how public transport can be integrated with Uber’s “multimodal vision for urban mobility”.

It highlights first- and last-mile options with pick-up and drop-off areas to complement public transportation. Additionally, Uber’s wheelchair accessible vehicles will hope to benefit all riders.
