Contract awarded in Thailand's first monorail project

Thailand’s first monorail project, the Pink Line, has been planned as part of the ‘Mass Rapid Transit Master Plan’ (M-MAP), a programme to develop Bangkok’s public transport network.

The future-planned 34.5km line will run between Bangkok and Nonthaburi with 42 trains carrying more than 28,000 passengers per hour at 80km/h. This is expected to improve the everyday journeys of more than 400,000 people.

The line will also provide connections between the Dark Red railway line, the Purple and Orange metro lines and the elevated Sukhumvit Line.

The Pink Line is the first public-private partnership in Thailand to incorporate the construction of infrastructure, the supply and installation of equipment and the operation and maintenance of the line.

Egis has previously worked in Thailand on Bangkok’s metro lines and in Indonesia with the Palembang light metro project.

This contract was awarded by the Thai Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) and confirms Egis will be responsible for design review, manufacturing supervision, installation and testing of all systems until the commencement of revenue service. For three years Egis, with TEAM Group, will lead the project management and construction supervision of the line.
