Volvo introduces HVO fuel ready city and intercity buses

Volvo has revealed its city and intercity buses equipped with Euro 6 engines are now certified to run on renewable HVO fuel.

Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel is made from renewable materials such as vegetable and animal oils, from sources such as rapeseed or slaughter waste. It can cut carbon emissions by 30 to 90 percent compared to regular diesel, depending on the raw material. According to Volvo, it has the same properties as regular diesel including its storage life, resistance to cold and the ability to mix both fuels. HVO can be distributed by existing fuel depots using the same types of tanks and nozzles.

HVO fuel can now be used in the manufacturers 5 and 8-litre Euro 6 engines following field trials and studies on the effect of the fuel on engine performance and reliability.
