Lime has announced that it has launched a fleet of rental e-bikes in Nottingham, as it looks to provide more UK residents with sustainable and affordable transport options.

The expansion comes at a time when cycling is booming – 1.5 million people have ridden Lime in the UK since the operator had launched locally in 2018. Its launch in Nottingham follows a successful launch of the operator’s electric vehicles (EVs) in London, Milton Keynes and Salford. Derby will also launch a similar e-bike scheme in the coming weeks.

Launched in partnership with Nottingham City Council, local residents will be able to hire the shared e-bikes in key city locations and enjoy the benefits that cycling can bring, from improved health to cleaner air.

Alice Pleasant, Public Affairs Manager at Lime, said: “Expanding our e-bike service into Nottingham is a key step in our ambition to give cities nationwide the tools to transition away from cars and meet their net zero targets. Lime’s e-bikes have become a popular addition to the streets of London, and in partnership with Nottingham City Council, we hope to see more and more people adopting alternative transport methods.”

Nottingham residents now have access to Lime’s latest Gen4 e-bike model, available for hire via the Lime app. Users will be required to park the e-bikes at a number of designated parking bays located around the city, and working closely with Nottingham City Council, the micro-mobility operator will ensure that these bays are sited in appropriate locations for riders and pedestrians. Lime also offers Lime Access, a membership offering a 50% discount on all e-bike rides for eligible riders.

As part of its launch in Nottingham, Lime is also supporting the Department for Transport’s (DfT) ‘It’s Everyone’s Journey’ campaign, aimed at creating a more considerate and supportive travel environment. Lime will launch ‘Feel Good Parking’ stickers on the basket of its bikes in Nottingham, reminding users to always park in parking bays marked with a ‘P’ in the Lime app, as it looks to prioritise parking.
