The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has formally announced that Frank Annicaro has assumed the role of Acting President of MTA Bus Company. Annicaro, a transportation industry veteran of more than three decades, began serving in the role earlier this month. He will double as Acting Senior Vice President of New York City Transit’s Department of Buses.

Annicaro has spent the last 18 years working in Bus Operations. His portfolio during that time encompasses a wide range of leadership functions. He has served as the Chief Maintenance Officer and been accountable for maintaining the entire MTA fleet of buses and non-revenue vehicles. Annicaro has managed multiple new bus procurement contracts and warranties. He’s also helped lead the organisation’s efforts to transition to a Zero Emission fleet by 2040.  Prior to joining the MTA, Annicaro spent over a decade in the private sector specializing in logistic services.

“I am honoured to accept this role,” said Annicaro. “We carry more people on our buses than the next four largest systems in America combined. I’ve spent the bulk of my career working to improve bus operations, so this is the opportunity of a lifetime. I’m ready to hit the ground running to make sure our team is as prepared as ever to deliver world class bus service millions of New Yorkers.”

“Frank is a strategic and innovative thinker and has the strong leadership background necessary to run the Department of Buses during this critical period when so many New Yorkers are returning to the system,” said Acting MTA Chairman and CEO Janno Lieber.

“I’m confident that Frank will continue to look for ways to make our bus system more attractive for all New Yorkers in the months to come.”

In total, MTA Regional Bus Operations runs more than 300 bus routes, including more than 70 express routes and 20 Select Bus Service routes. The Authority maintains and operates a 24/7 fleet of nearly 6,000 buses, which is the largest municipal fleet in the U.S.
