Dubai's RTA joins ERTICO in push for smart transportation innovation

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced its accreditation as a member of the ERTICO -ITS EUROPE, as part of its endeavour to achieve the goals of achieving leadership and innovation in the field of smart transportation and traffic systems, in line with its strategic vision for transportation to be “safe and easy for everyone.”

The new membership was signed by Eng. Maitha bin Adi, Executive Director of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority, who explained that ERTICO is concerned with developing smart transportation systems through research, scientific studies and promotion, as well as using open technology standards to exchange experiences and knowledge between members and stakeholders.

As a new member, RTA will reportedly:

  • Participate in research and development initiatives in modern smart traffic systems techniques using artificial intelligence
  • Host engineers from the youth category at the ERTICO offices in Brussels for a period of one month and train them in the fields and projects of modern smart transport systems.

Bin Adi said: “The membership will allow our participation in preparing and updating the technical specifications and international standards related to smart transport systems, informing them of the initial results of field experiments of initiatives and projects funded by the European Intelligent Transport Systems Authority. It will also provide an opportunity to make field visits to the sites of those experiences, as well as provide advisory services scope in reviewing and providing feedback, providing supportive data about future smart traffic system initiatives and projects.”

Bin Adi explained that this membership will give the Authority an opportunity to enhance its reputation as a global leader in the field of smart mobility, by interviewing other stakeholders within the technical area.
