Invitation to bus suppliers to register as vendors with Sarawak Metro

Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro) – a wholly own subsidiary of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) – is calling for bus suppliers and manufacturers to register as its vendors in its search for a potential bus supplier. These buses, which will be powered by hydrogen fuel cell, will be used as feeder buses in its Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project.

The project aims to modernise Sarawak’s public transport system. Apart from reducing traffic congestion, this project is also in support of the Sarawak Government’s aspiration to decarbonise public transport, as the hydrogen-powered system set to be used in this project is zero-emission. The use of hydrogen fuel cell for this project is also to advance Sarawak’s hydrogen economy agenda.

The Sarawak Government, through the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation and Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd, intends to develop a new transportation system, that is the Kuching Urban Transportation System – aiming to transform Kuching into a dynamic and competitive city with the provision of user-friendly mobility services. KUTS will alleviate traffic congestion and enable people to move about more efficiently in the Greater Kuching area, thereby creating more economic opportunities and enabling trade, as well as facilitating access to broader markets and services.

The intent of this registration for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Feeder Bus Vendor is to identify vendors who will subsequently be invited to submit competitive tenders for hydrogen fuel cell feeder buses. The Vendor Registration Form can be download from the Sarawak Metro website.
