The roll out comes after the council withdrew licences for Lime and Wave branded-scooters in 2019.
Beryl Bikes are unlocked through the an app and can be picked up and dropped off at marked bays which have been selected in conjunction with local councils to best meet the needs of the community.
Rome is the first Italian city to debut the bike-sharing scheme, with 700 bicycles appearing across the city, and a further 2,800 planned to be deployed over the coming weeks.
