Czech capital’s municipal operator orders 40 Solaris Urbino 8.9 LE. Buses will be delivered in batches from 2012 until 2015. Low-entry midibuses offer room for 27 seated and 39 standing passengers. Czech Republic was the first export market for Solaris buses in 2000.

After winning a competitive tender, Solaris will deliver 40 Urbino 8.9 LE midibuses to Prague City Transport (Dopravní podnik hlavního města Prahy, a.s.). The first ten will arrive in the Czech capital before the end of 2012, with the remaining 30 to follow in batches over the next three years. The contract is worth 162 million Czech korun (6.5 million euro).

Prague City Transport has chosen Solaris buses for the first time. The Solaris Urbino 8.9 LE midibuses offer excellent manoeuvrability thanks to their length of only 8.95 metres and width of 2.4 metres. Despite their compact size, the low-entry concept allows 27 comfortable seats to be fitted, while a total of 66 people can be carried. Ample space for wheelchair users and passengers with pushchairs is provided opposite the second door. The Urbino midibuses for Prague will be powered by eco-friendly 6.7-litre Cummins diesel engines meeting the EEV emissions standard and generating 181 kW (242 PS). They are matched to ZF EcoLife automatic gearboxes.

Małgorzata Olszewska, Member of the Board for Sales & Marketing at Solaris Bus & Coach, comments: “The Czech Republic was the first export destination for Solaris buses in 2000, and today it continues to be one of the most important markets for our buses. We value every single contract, and the order of 40 buses for Prague City Transport is a particular success. We are looking forward to seeing our buses on the streets of this beautiful city.”
