The bank card payment option has opened in Trelleborg and Hässleholm, and the roll-out will reportedly continue throughout Skåne, including the largest city of the region, Malmö, in early 2020.

Skåne region first in Nordics to offer public transport contactless payment

Travellers in Sweden’s Skåne region can now purchase an hourly ticket with a contactless bank card directly from a validator.

The service was developed by Skånetrafiken, the regional public transportation authority and operator in Skåne, in cooperation with Ridango, a solution provider for public transport.

Mariell Hallenhed, Product Owner at Skånetrafiken, said: “We have been developing our programme in Skåne with the ambition to create world class public transport where simplicity is a keyword. This solution is a step in the right direction, and it is a pleasure to offer our customers such a convenient way of travel. To buy a ticket should never be an obstacle for using public transport.”

“Contactless bank card is the most universal payment medium worldwide. It makes access to a public transport network simple and convenient for all passengers, not only for frequent users. It’s been a pleasure working together with Skanetrafiken in bringing the Pay-As-You-Go approach to Nordic markets,” said Argo Verk, Head of Sales at Ridango.

Travellers can also purchase tickets via the app, online, at customer service desks and ticket machines, and in some cases, from bus drivers.
