Two Lithuanian cities have chosen a total of 30 climate-friendly Solaris buses to renew their fleets over the coming months. Different technologies will be used, with the new buses fuelled by biogas or built as diesel-electric hybrids. The orders were placed by operators in Kaunas and Panevėžys.

“These contracts confirm Solaris’s excellent expertise in eco-friendly buses. They demonstrate that our offer is valued by our Lithuanian customers, who have come through challenging times and now are once again able to invest in innovative, sustainable public transport,” said Małgorzata Olszewska, Director Global Sales & Marketing at Solaris.

In Kaunas, municipal operator Kauno Autobusai has chosen the environmental benefits of biogas. The sustainably produced fuel will be used to power 24 Solaris Urbino 12 CNG. These standard-length low-floor city buses will enter service in Lithuania’s second-largest city by the end of April 2012.

Panevėžio Autobusų Parkas runs city buses in the northern city of Panevėžys. The company has ordered six diesel-electric Solaris Urbino 12 Hybrid. Their parallel hybrid system, supplied by Eaton, reduces fuel consumption and lowers emissions. Solaris and Panevėžys will be jointly leading the way towards climate-friendly transport, with the Solaris Urbino 12 Hybrid set to be the first hybrid buses in Lithuania.
