Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has developed a new app specially for iPad, called TMB Maps, which enables users to plan journeys on the metro and bus, locate stops and find out when the next bus is due, amongst other options, with all the visual appeal, interactiveness and ease of use that characterise the Apple tablet.

The app superimposes metro stations and bus stops over a view of the user’s location, with details of each of the lines that stop there. Users can choose between regular map view, satellite or hybrid. Information on the public transport network is downloaded to local storage to speed up communications.

TMB Maps is available to download free from the iTunes Store. Once installed, via an intuitive touchscreen, you can access a series of functions that make taking the bus or metro, or combining the two, much easier. Under settings you can choose your language: Catalan, Spanish or English.

Users can find iPad versions of popular functions Going to, for planning journeys on public transport, and Where am I?, which helps locate the nearest bus stops and metro stations, along with TMB iBus which tells you when the next bus is due at the stop.

TMB is now working on a version of TMB Maps for Android tablets.

Over 120,000 mobile app downloads

TMB Maps has joined the firm’s other two apps for mobile devices, TMB Virtual and Barcelona Bus Turístic Virtual, both augmented reality apps. The iPhone version of TMB Virtual has registered almost 80,000 downloads from Apple Store, and over 42,000 for the Android version.
