GIRO is pleased to announce its HASTUS operations software has been successfully implemented at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro). The comprehensive installation encompasses 15 divisions and 4,700 bus and rail operators, making it the largest HASTUS installation in North America and one of the largest worldwide.

Metro, a GIRO client since 1982, chose the HASTUS operations suite to replace the in-house-developed Transit Operating and Trends System (TOTS) it had been using for mark-up, dispatching, and remuneration of bus and rail operators for nearly three decades.

The HASTUS operations software installed at Metro includes various daily operations applications, including employee SignIn, which allows operators to access their Driver Time Cards while signing in for work, as well as interfaces to payroll solutions to help ensure accurate calculation and timely processing. The operations software integrates seamlessly with the HASTUS scheduling software Metro has been using since 2007.

With a combined bus and rail ridership of just over 9 million boardings per week, Metro’s daily operations needs were extensive and complex. Several teams from both companies worked vigorously to deliver, implement, and test the operations software. Metro and GIRO collaborated extremely well throughout the entire project, resulting in a smooth transition to the new software, as well as improved end-user satisfaction and immediate service improvements.

“Having implemented a similar but smaller project in Minneapolis, I found GIRO’s support for the much larger Los Angeles project outstanding, said Metro’s John FitzGibbon, Transit Resource Planning Manager. “Metro’s team worked seamlessly with GIRO to complete a challenging and complex project.”

“This installation was challenging due to the size and complexity of the project and the task of ensuring that HASTUS interfaced smoothly with multiple systems,” said Anna Bragina, Senior Project Manager at GIRO. “The project was also very exciting in that it provided an opportunity to improve our standard software and incorporate new technologies that will produce added benefits for our clients,” added Bragina. “The determination of Metro’s teams to maximize their productivity gains while successfully keeping the scope of the project under control was impressive. It was a pleasure to work with such dedicated teams at Metro, and we are eager to collaborate with them again in the future.”
