Vossloh Kiepe and consortium partner Alstom Transport Deutschland have been awarded an order for new TW 3000 light rail vehicles…
Public transit specialists Vossloh Kiepe and consortium partner Alstom Transport Deutschland have been awarded an order for new TW 3000 light rail vehicles for Üstra Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe AG. The consortium successfully won this European-wide competition with its modern vehicle concept.
The partners have initially received the order for 50 light rail vehicles. The scope of the order for Vossloh Kiepe, who have the role of consortium leaders, is in this case over 100 million euros. The contract also covers an option for the delivery of an additional 96 light rail vehicles over the coming years. The entire project amounts to approx. 350 million euros. Delivery of the first 50 vehicles will occur from 2013 to 2014.
The new light rail vehicles will successively replace the now 30-year-old TW 6000 vehicles. They are characterized by their high level of passenger comfort and low energy consumption. These modern vehicles are two-piece, 25-metre-long high-floor light rail vehicles from the TW 3000 series. They are designed for bidirectional operation and will therefore have two driver’s cabs. This increases flexibility during the attaching and detaching of the vehicles. The 6-axle light rail railways are suitable for both underground and above-ground operation. They are equipped with passenger information systems and have heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems in the driver’s cabs as well as the passenger compartments.
