Cubic Transportation Systems, the leading global provider of automated fare collection systems for public transport, has selected Adapt, the independent IT managed services provider, to host and manage a secure dual data centre and networking solution for its critical back office requirements in relation to Transport for London’s (TfL) Oyster® system. The three year contract, worth in excess of £2 million, supports Cubic in its delivery of high availability services in relation to the Oyster system that is in operation across the capital’s entire public transport network.

Given the constant demand placed on TfL’s operations by the millions of people using Oyster services every day, reliability is understandably central to Cubic’s needs. Adapt is uniquely placed to guarantee Cubic’s uninterrupted business continuity due to its strong management model and long-standing partnerships with leading data centre providers and network carriers. In this case, Cubic utilises two of Adapt’s dedicated data centre sites, located outside the M25 periphery and Central London respectively and connected via Adapt’s private dark fibre ring. This allows Adapt to deliver real-time data replication and guaranteed sub-millisecond latency.

Within both private data centre suites, Adapt manages and monitors the environmental status of Cubic’s intelligent racks, ensuring humidity, temperature and power operate within agreed parameters. Cubic is able to access these monitoring statistics in real-time via Adapt’s dedicated management portal, allowing transparent and independent measurement of service against SLAs.

“Cubic had to achieve a seamless transition of services from the previous contractor in compressed timescales and was therefore seeking a partner who could support this objective and provide an ongoing service that was accessible, aligned to the demands of the Oyster system and provided resilient and guaranteed uptime,” said Tim Elles, Commercial Director at Cubic Transportation Systems. “Throughout the competitive tender process and in subsequent delivery of services, Adapt has not only shown that it understood this, but has demonstrated the commitment and flexibility to meet the transition timescales and continues to meet the service requirement.”

“By taking advantage of Adapt’s services, Cubic is able to ensure that the operations behind TfL’s Oyster service run smoothly and efficiently, with high availability, reliability and low latency,” said Simon Fisk, Sales and Marketing Director at Adapt. ”We are delighted to play a part in a service so critical to London’s operations and look forward to working with Cubic for many years to come.”
