Alstom, together with Colas Rail and Thales, have signed a contract with Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB) to supply a metro system for the city’s line 3 which is due to start commercial operation by the end of 2021.

Hanoi metro line 3 to enter operation in 2021

The 12.5 km-long Hanoi Line 3 is the second metro line under construction in the city. Once operational, the line is expected to transport People Per Hour and Per Direction (PPHPD). It is hoped capacity will progressively increase within 10 years.

As part of the contract, 12 stations and one train maintenance depot at Nhon will be constructed. Alstom will supply and integrate the metro system which is composed of 10 Metropolis trainsets, its Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) solution Urbalis 400 – which controls train movement enabling them to run at higher frequencies and speeds in safety, as well as the power supply and depot equipment together with Colas Rail.
