In a contact worth more than 26 million Euros, Škoda will supply fourteen battery-powered trams to a local transport company in Eskişehir, a city located in the west of Turkey. The signing follows a previous delivery consisting of 72 vehicles to the Turkish city of Konya.

Tomáš Ignačák, Chairman of the Board of Škoda Transportation, said: “We will deliver a new, supremely comfortable tram to our Turkish customer within nineteen months from signing the contract. The order for Eskişehir is another major export success for Škoda in recent times and confirms the superior quality of our vehicles.”

Battery-powered trams will carry up to 276 passengers each

The vehicles will be equipped with powerful traction batteries allowing them to operate without an overhead catenary line on the city’s proposed 1 kilometre route. The battery drive will also be implemented if there is a failure in the upper catenary lines, helping to maintain a regular and smooth service.

Eskişehir, which has undergone dynamic development in recent years, has approximately 700,000 inhabitants and is one of the main connecting lines between Ankara and Istanbul

“The more than thirty-meter long, completely air-conditioned tram will offer space for up to 276 passengers. The trams have a unidirectional design and fit a gauge of 1000 mm. There will be no stairs inside the cars and getting on and off will be through four double-doors and two single-doors. The vehicles have an elegant design, which will go well with the local colors of Eskişehir,” adds Olesea Lachi, Sales Area Manager in Škoda Transportation.
