Once launched, bus passengers travelling across the city and its surrounding area via three different bus companies will be able to travel using just one ticket. This has been achieved through a partnership involving Xplore Dundee, Stagecoach, Moffat & Williamson and Dundee City Council.

ABC multi-operator tickets part of a wider Scottish initiative for seamless travel

The ABC (Any Bus Company) products will be available to buy from all the participating operators from Monday 12 September 2016. The ticket types available on ABC will be:

  • Adult day tickets
  • Child day tickets
  • Adult weekly tickets
  • Child weekly tickets

Details of ticket prices and maps of the ticket zone will be made available to the public within the next month.

Earlier this year bus operators in Scotland outlined their commitment to deliver multi-operator smart ticketing for millions of bus customers during 2016-17. The launch of ABC will be the first part of a country-wide scheme which aims to pave the way for seamless travel between bus, rail, ferry and subway.

“It’s a very exciting development in public transport for Dundee”

Managing Director of Xplore Dundee Elsie Turbyne said: “This revolutionary new way of ticketing will allow passengers the freedom to hop onto a Stagecoach bus in Monifieth and switch to an Xplore Dundee service in Dundee city centre, making a further journey to Wormit with Moffat & Williamson, using just one single ticket.

“It’s a very exciting development in public transport for Dundee and we’re all proud to be involved with this innovative project. Multi-operator ticketing will complement each of our existing smart ticket products and I hope that it will encourage more people to choose bus travel for their journeys to work, college or leisure activities.”

George Devine, Managing Director, Moffat & Williamson said: “We’re looking forward to working in conjunction with Transport Scotland, Dundee City Council and local transport operators to ultimately make bus travel in the area easier for our passengers. Offering a smart multi-operator ticket option to customers is a massive step forward for this area, and hopefully will encourage the use of public transport.”
