National Express have been named preferred bidder by the Porto public transport society (STCP) to operate buses in the Portuguese city in a contact lasting ten years.

National Express subsidiary ALSA preferred bidder for Porto bus contract

National Express’ Spanish arm ALSA has been named preferred bidder to operate buses in the Portuguese city of Porto by the Board of Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto, S.A. (STCP).

The contract will run for ten years and is expected to generate revenues of around €500 million over the life of the contract. National Express’ services will carry more than 75 million passengers a year, on approximately 420 buses.

Subject to approval the contract is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2016. National Express is currently entering further discussions with the relevant authorities to conclude the contract.
