Smart ticketing organisation ITSO becomes member of GlobalPlatform

GlobalPlatform, the association which standardises the management of applications on secure chip technology, has welcomed the membership of ITSO Limited as an additional Public Entity Member.

ITSO is a non-profit distributing organisation which oversees the implementation of the ITSO Specification, a secure technical electronic platform on which smart ticketing schemes can be built and utilised by operators, suppliers and local authorities.

The membership will allow ITSO to contribute to the GlobalPlatform Advisory Council and take an active interest in the Public Transportation Sub-Task Force that resides within the Mobile Task Force.

Steve Wakeland, General Manager of ITSO, comments: “Although our members’ current operational priority is smartcards, our focus for the future includes how smartphones and other devices will be utilised for transit ticketing. As a result, we need to work closely with the relevant standards bodies that are developing specifications to facilitate multi-application environments on chips. It therefore makes perfect sense for us to collaborate with GlobalPlatform to achieve our mutual aims.”

Kevin Gillick, Executive Director of GlobalPlatform, adds: “Cross-industry cooperation is essential in creating an internationally recognised and adopted standard for smart transit ticketing. ITSO’s expertise and input will assist the development of an end-to-end simplified framework for the public transport industry which will enhance convenience for the consumer and provide greater flexibility for operators.”
