First refurbished Lyon Metro train resumes service

The contract to refurbish 36 Metro trains was awarded by Sytral, Lyon public transport authority, to CAF-CDF in 2014 and is due for completion in summer 2018 at a cost of €23 million. In order to reduce disruption to Lyon Metro line D service, currently recording 300,000 trips per day, the trains are transported at a revised rate of one per month until completion in 2018.

Each train will be overhauled at CAF’s Bagnières de Bigorre site in France and will undergo renovation and cleaning of equipment, electric and hydraulic doors, carriages, sound, lighting, windows and flooring. Each trainset will be repainted with a new red a white design which has already been deployed on other network subway lines.

The second renovated train will resume service at the end of July with the third expected in the second half of September.
