Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation has been working in the Turkish rail control market for more than 25 years this month. The company has commenced work to deliver its most advanced mass transit technology 25 years after the start of operations on the first metro line in Istanbul equipped with Bombardier signalling technology.
In total, Bombardier has delivered five mass transit signalling systems in Turkey since March 1989 when operations started on Istanbul’s Light Rail Metro, equipped with the BOMBARDIER CITYFLO 250 fixed block system. Since then the company has also delivered this technology for the Sultan Ciftligi tram line (T4) in Istanbul and the Izmir Light Rail Metro plus the CITYFLO 350 solution for the Istanbul Kirazli-Ikitelli-Basaksehir-Olimpiyat Metro (M3) and Adana Metro systems.
Continuing to be at the forefront of rail signalling, this year work has started to deliver the CITYFLO 650 communications-based train control (CBTC) solution for Istanbul’s Uskudar – Umraniye – Cekmekoy metro line, the first fully driverless metro line in Turkey. This is part of a major programme to improve public transportation in one of the world’s most congested cities. Bombardier helped arrange an export credit facility extended by ING Bank NV, KFW and Unicredit Bank AG to the City of Istanbul. Also focused on mainline, Bombardier is delivering its European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) technology in Turkey. BOMBARDIER INTERFLO 250 ERTMS is being installed on the Irmak-Karabuk-Zonguldak line.
