Riders in Southampton and Portsmouth have covered over 2.6 million miles on Voi rental e-scooters since the launch of the scheme two years ago, with demand for micro-mobility options continuing to grow.
First Bus's decision to cease all operations in Southampton has been made due to insufficient customer demand post-pandemic, changes in travel patterns, rising costs and the city's competitive bus market.
As part of the trial extension, Solent Transport will continue to monitor rental e-scooter usage, working closely with local stakeholders in Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight to ensure that communities can provide feedback to the trial.
Beryl Bikes by Breeze will provide people across Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight with better access to sustainable modes of transport, helping to improve air quality and public health across the Solent region.
The new bike-share scheme will be integrated with Solent Transport’s MaaS app, which encourages commuters to combine active travel and public transport as an alternative to car use.
Voi will trial its scooter service in the Hampshire city of Southampton later this month, with riders able to get their hands on scooters from 18 March.
