Olsztyn tramway restoration continues with delivery of first tram in 50 years

The Polish city of Olsztyn welcomed the first tram in over 50 years after Solaris delivered the first of 15 Tramino for the north-east region of Warmian-Masurian.

The contract, signed in 2012 by Solaris Bus & Coach and Olsztyn Province, allows 15 Tramino to be delivered to the operator for the Olsztyn tramway. Each tram is 29.3 metres long and 2.5 metres wide are bi-directional and have a fully low floor. The Solaris Tramino for Olsztyn consists of three body sections. Each of them runs on a pivoting bogie of its own; the outer bogies are powered by four 120kW traction motors, while the central one is trailing.

Each tram will accommodate more than 200 passengers and provide 43 seats. They will have six sets of double doors on each side, providing easy and comfortable access to the completely low floor throughout the tram. Passengers will benefit from air-conditioning and improved safety through on-board CCTV.

The first tram was delivered on 19 June 2015; the total order will be supplied by the end of this year.

The industry premiere of the Solaris Tramino Olsztyn is planned for September, when it will be shown to a trade audience during this year’s TRAKO International Railway Fair in Gdańsk.
