SITURV, the transport authority for the Valenciennes city and region (France) transport network, has announced its decision to award the contract to RATP Dev to operate its Transvilles network connecting 81 municipalities in its two associations of metropolitan areas (Valenciennes Métropole and Porte du Hainaut) and their 350,000 inhabitants. The seven-year contract will begin on 1 January 2015.
The Transvilles network has two tramway lines, 27 bus lines, one future BHLS (bus with a high level of service) line scheduled for 2016, two corporate shuttle services, a network of special services for schools, a “Taxival” transport on demand service and a door-to-door service for disabled passengers. The areas’ 12 regional and high-speed train stations will be connected to the network.
François-Xavier Perin, Chief Executive of RATP Dev, stated, “We are delighted with and proud of the trust placed in RATP Dev by SITURV and with our future cooperation on a major tramway network in which the entire RATP Group’s know-how will be deployed to serve its users”.
The signature of the new contract also heralds multiple changes to ensure better service for the region’s inhabitants:
- Better tailored amplitude and frequency of buses and tramways
- Implementation of a bus with a high level of service between Valenciennes and Crespin/Quiévrechain
- Enhanced measures against fraud and discourtesy
- More dynamic neighbourhood partnerships with local non-profit organisations.
